East Essex Triathlon Club, EETC for short, started life in 1981 as 'Courtlands' Triathlon Club with just a handful of members from the squash club keen to try the fledgeling sport of Triathlon. In 1983 the name changed to 'East Essex' when interest in the club and popularity of the sport in general began to grow. Before long the club out grew it's spiritual home at Courtlands and new venues were sort further afield to cater for the ever increasing membership from across the county.
Today, over 30 years on, sees the club's activities centered around the brand new Basildon Sporting Village, in Basildon, with satelite sites at Runnymede, Blackshots, Sweyne Park and Dunton Test Track to name but a few and we play host to three annual races; Basildon Aquathlon, East Essex Kids Triathlon, and Wilkins Kennedy Grays Triathlon, which are all extrememly popular events in the Triathlon calendar. (See EETC Events pages for more details.
The club's popularity has gone from strength to strength boasting, not only an adult membership list of over 150 members but also, a well established junior section with nearly the same attendance as the adults. We aim for excellence in our delivery of triathlon related activities and this has been recognised by our award of Sport England's Club Mark, which identifies excellence in practice, particularly when dealing with our junior section.
As a club we are fully committed to offering a safe, friendly environment where everyone is welcome, without predjudice, to take part and enjoy the sport of Triathlon.
Our policy of equality and fairness is outlined in our club Equity Statement, available to view here: EETC Equity Statement
Our committment to task is outlined in our club constitution, available to view here: EETC Club Constitution
As a club we compete in events all over the county, country and in fact around the world. Our members regularly compete in Super Sprint (Novice), Sprint, Standard (Olympic), Middle (Half Ironman) and Long (Ironman) distance Triathlons, Aquathlons, Duathlons, Cycle Sportives, Cyclo Cross races, Road runs, Trail runs, Marathons, Cross Country, Swimathons and every other combination of swimming, biking or running you can think of.
We also operate two leagues within the club, for both adults and juniors, which are based on selected events over the course of the year. These events will score you points towards the league which all add up to the chance of winning a club trophy at the end of season awards night. There's no pressure to compete as you're eligible for points just for finishing, wherever you come, and it's a great way to motivate yourself and other members.
For those you who are up for a bit of all out competion we nominate one race per year as the 'Club Championship' race where as many members as possible enter the one race, usually a sprint event, and compete for the title of Club Champion. There's also a championship event for the junior club too.
If you are interested in taking up Triathlon or would like to join us at EETC, then you are more than welcome to come along to our regular training sessions and give us a 'tri'. We offer trial sessions, swim, bike and run, that are provisionally open to non members for a trial period of two sessions to give you a chance to come along and see what you think. Details of theses sessions can be found below.
The swim session is every Monday night at Runnymede Swimming Pool, Benfleet and Thursday night at Basildon Sporting Village. It is Adults & Youth only. We meet at 20:15 for a 20:30 start in the seated area outside the changing rooms. These sessions are coached by our team of BTF coaches. For the trial period it's £4.50 per session. When you arrive please let whoever is collecting subs know you're there for a trial session and they will point you in the right direction.
The run session is Tuesday evenings between 18.30 and 19.30 pm at Basildon Sporting Village, Basildon. We meet at 18:15 around the base of the main stand on the athletics track during warmer weather and just inside the building when it's cold. Again this is a coached session and is open the adult and juniors at £4.50 for the trial period. These sessions are fully coached by our level 1 and Level 2 BTF coaches. Additional run sessions are available to members - for full details see 'Training' menu.
The bike sessons operate on selected Sunday mornings, during the winter months between October and March. They start at 7.30am at the Market Car Park at the top of Rayleigh High Street. They are £FREE. Each ride will have three ride leaders and depending on attendance we will split into smaller, ability groups. The rides last between 2 and 3 hours, depending on the weather. To ensure the safety of all riders these sessions are limited to 2 trial sessions only. After that you will be required to join. We recommend you attend either a swim or run session prior to a cycle to introduce yourself and discuss your training needs.
There's always plenty of members around on training nights who can answer any questions you may have but should you require any further information on the sessions above, if you'd like information on introducing a junior member to the club or if you'd just rather say hello before you turn up for a session then please feel free to contact the team on one of the links below and they will be more than happy to help with your enquiries.
