News from 2013

Happy New Year from all at EETC

Wishing you health, happiness and success in 2014.

Springfield Striders New Years Eve Run

Ok that's it back to the grindstone!

Hope you've all had a great chrimbo. Please keep an eye on the Forum and Facebook for scheduled and adhoc training sessions leading up to New Year ... there's plenty of swims, bikes and runs to help work off those mince pies and turkey.

Happy Boxing Day!

Perhaps a little exercise today to blow away the cobwebs? ... Crown2Crown at 11am ... or maybe not!

Word of the Day: Porraceous, adj. Resembling a leek, esp. leek-green in colour.

Merry Christmas one and all

Merry Christmas EETC! Eat, drink and be merry you've all deserved it.

EETC events 'league' the way ...

Some great news - East Essex Tri Club organised races are once again forming an integral part of the Eastern Region Triathlon championships and leagues. This is a great recognition of the way East Essex Tri Club run our events in a professional and successful manner. We strongly believe that the East Essex Tri Club races are among the best races in Essex!

Hoodies are here!

They will be available to collect from track this tuesday and at the santa run on 21st at Rayleigh cricket club. In addition they can be collected from spinning at Clements Place Wednesday, or bsv swimming Thursday but pls let me know in advance

Apologies for anyone who ordered a SMALL size hoodie, these are not yet ready as the supplier let us down last minute.

Orion 15 Saturday 22 March at 10am.

Please attached the entry form for the 2014 60th running of the Orion 15 - Orion 15 Entry Form. A few tweaks to the form (different picture, different date…) but essentially it’s the same format as the last few years. The course will be as in recent years – if there are any changes we’ll let you know (probably as you stand on the start line). Can’t predict the weather – in the last few years we’ve had most combinations of weather culminating in last year’s picturesque blizzard.

There is lots of information on the website - www.orionharriers.org.uk/fif15.htm. The page is currently all about the 2013 race but should soon be up to date with the 2014 entry form and date.

Christmas Training - SWIM

This Thursday, 19th December, will be swimming as usual but with a "fun" theme.
There will be no swimming on the Thursday 26th December.
Thursday 2nd January there will be our usual swim lanes available but will not be a coached session (Members can free swim or request a set from one of the coaches).

Monday swim sessions will remain unaffected and continue as usual throught the Christmas break.

Christmas Training - TRACK

This week, Tuesday 17th December, will be the last track session before Christmas.
Runners are positively encouraged to wear festive attire - not compulsory but encouraged!
Normal track sessions will resume on the 7th January.

Christmas Pudding 10 - RESULTS

Well done to all who took part in todays time trial at Steeple. Please find attached the results: Christmas Pudding 10 Results.

It's that time of year! - Saturday 21st December

The secret Santa run will be starting at Rayleigh cricket club at 8.00am.

The run will be for approx 1 hour so we have plenty of time for tea, bacon sandwiches and presents!

There will be a youth run ( Tri star 2 and above ) led by Hannah S and Christian lasting approx 30 mins.

Everyone to bring a present - must not cost more than £3 - must be useless and or tacky/ may be a recycled gift

The presents will then be distributed by the rules determined by Richard Fuller ( far too long and confusing to go into here , and can occasionally bring grown men to tears, but lots and lots of fun!)

Christmas Pudding 10 - Sunday 15th December

As the cross country has been cancelled you might like to give the TT at Steeple a go. This is a LEAGUE EVENT so there will be some early points up for grabs. If you want to take part you will need to pre-register by emailing bazwheelers@sky.com or zena@east-essex-tri-club.co.uk. The deadline is usually a week before the event so to avoid missing out I'd get in early. The wheelers website mentions prizes for best festive dress and fastest MTB. I'm not sure if this is open to EETC members but don't let that stop you digging out those Mr & Mrs Santa suits!!! Race HQ is Steeple Village Hall and sign on is 9am for a 10am start.

And you thought you'd get a lay in ...

As Cross Country on the 15th has been postponed the Sunday ride leaders have organised an extra ride to replace the Cross Country. We are expecting slightly lower numbers as there is also a TT at Steeple on the same day so we have organised two group leaders - Ian George to lead group 1/2 and Steve Davis to lead Group 2/3 - There will be no Group 4. Usual meet times apply but as always keep an eye on the forum and facebook for last minute details.

This year's Hogg Hill cycle day will be held from 12pm to 4pm on Sunday 13th October at Redbridge Cycle Center. It will follow the same popular and successful format as in previous years with a coached session, hill climb, time trial and cycle race.

This is a free event open to all club members, adult, youth and tristars, and is our way of saying a huge thank you to everyone who has helped with the success of the club this year by marshalling and supporting us!

All we ask is that you let Paul Gammon (paulcgammon@hotmail.com) know asap if you plan to attend.

Mob Match 2013 - 10am 5th October

HERE'S THE SWIM-RUN ROUTES FOR TOMORROW: MOB MATCH 2013 ROUTES!

This will be at a brand new venue of Redricks Lake on Saturday 5th October at 10.00am. For those of you who've never taken part this is our annual 'friendly' open water aquathlon against our old buddies Tri Sport Epping and used to always involve a forfeit of some description for the losing team captain. These days there is a trophy to bag and the pride of EETC at stake so please book this Saturday in your diary – we would really love to wrestle the trophy away from Tri Sport and bring it back to East Essex. It's free to enter but if you could let Zena know in advance if you plan to attend to give us some idea of numbers

*update from TSE* - The format is a 750 m lake swim, followed by a 5.3 km run along the canal towpath. Points are awarded according to your position (e.g. 1st = 1 point, 8th = 8 points). The scores of the first x (number to be determined on the day) men and y (number to be determined on the day) women will be added together. The club with the lowest score is the winner. Basically, its a bit of competitive fun, and a chance to continue inter-club rivalries. For me, this event traditionally also marks the end of the open water swimming season. Cost = Club will pay for members. Refreshments can be purchased in the clubhouse after the event.

The address is:- Redricks Lakes, Redricks Lane, Sawbridgeworth, Herfordshire, CM21 0RL

Leigh 10k - 20th October 2013

This year's race will take place on Sunday 20th October at 9:30am from the Golf Driving Range on Leigh Marshes. All finisherrs will recieve a very nice medal and goodie bag along with a smile from one of our fantastic marshals. Winners from each category will receive a prize, with spot prizes available too.

Message from Baz ...

Unfortunately it seems that in the rush in signing on, one or two riders inadvertently omitted to pay their entry fee that left our account a few pounds short. This prompts me into explaining to those of you that are new to time trials what happens to the entry fees.

First of all the club has to pay a levy of £2 to Cycling Time Trials, the governing body, for every rider that signs on. That leaves us with an income of £1.50 from seniors and 50p for every junior. We try to ensure that each activity that the club organises stands alone on finances. The club TT income should then cover costs for hall hire for all of the Sunday events, most of which make a significant loss on the day with hall charges ranging from about £50 to over £100 pounds depending on the length of hire. This year we had to purchase two new stop watches costing over £100 and new race warning signs. Race numbers have to be frequently replaced as they get worn out very quickly when used a every week. Marshalls high vis tabards have to be purchased which seem to disappear quite frequently. We hope then to have enough cash left at end of season to cover the awards and engraving of trophies.

We therefore welcome riders who come and ride private TT’s which helps to cover our costs.

I would also like to thank East Essex Tri club members who help us out with marshalling which helps to keep our time trials safe. We always carry out a risk assessment prior to every event and advise riders of any temporary hazards.

Finally, the remaining Wednesday TT’s will start at 7.00 pm. with sign on cut off at 6.45.

Regards, Baz.

UPDATED - Marshals List - Wilkins Kennedy Grays Triathlon 2013

This list has been updated as of: 8pm 19/07/13

Hi all, Please find the marshals list for Sunday here: MARSHALS LIST FOR GRAYS.

If you have any questions or queries regarding your duties for the day please contact Zena Shean ASAP!- do not leave it until the morning.

Essex Way Relay - Sunday 1st September 2013

The EWR is a trail race covering the 82 miles of the Essex Way footpath from Epping to Harwich Lighthouse. The course is split into 10 sections of varying distances, from 5 miles to 11 miles, and each section is run in succession starting with Leg 1 at 8am and finishing with Leg 10 at 6pm.

This year I would like to get together a team (or teams) from EETC to take part in this fantastic event. It's free to enter and is organised purely on a volunteer basis and attracts runners of all abilities from across the county

It's not your average running race tho. For those not familiar with the 'Trail' race format the route is by written description which each runner must follow to get from A to B! .. and notice it's A to B and not a loop so some logistics will be involved at the start and finish.

If you would like to enter one of the EETC teams or would like some more details on what's involved visit the Essex Way Relay 2013 thread on the forum or join the chat on Facebook.

I'm also available to chat at training or on email at Teams4EWR

Steeple Time Trial - THIS WEDNESDAY! - League Bike TT 4

Hi all,

This weeks TT will start at 7.00 and not 7.30 pm as listed. The reason for this change is that we expect a very large entry and we could run out of daylight if we start at 7.30.
However, those of you who find it difficult to get out to Steeple in time to sign on for a 7.00 pm start at 6.45, on this occasion we are extending signing on until 7.15, but from 6.45 onwards, signing on will be at the start and not at the Crown and Anchor. After initial sign on, numbers will be allocated sequentially as riders sign on. This means that the later you arrive, the later you will start and so hopefully everyone will get a ride.
Be prepared for a course change if there are traffic lights on the 10 course as last week. The alternative that we will use is the second half of the E21/25a 25 miles course. The start will be about 1/4 mile west of the Sun and Anchor at the centre of the green in front of the old church hall dated on front of building 1844. Riders proceed westwards for approx. 1.5 miles to Grange Avenue opposite the Mayland Mill pub, where left (marshal) for 1/2 mile to “T” junction where left, marshal (care here, traffic from right has right of way). Proceed to Asheldham, junction with Southminster Road B1021 marshal, (care here, traffic from right has right of way). Continue straight on, B1021, to Tillingham, (care through village where there are usually a number of parked cars). Continue on B1021 to Mill End, Bradwell “T” junction where left, marshal, (care here, traffic from right has right of way) You are now back on the 10 course, continue on to usual finish at Steeple sign. 12.6 miles.
Hopefully the traffic lights will not be there in which case the usual E21/10 course will be used.
Regards, Baz.

DON"T FORGET!

This Thursday sees the second of our swim/runs hosted by Neil Lynch at BSV. This comprises of a 300m swim and 5k run. Please arrive promptly at the usual time for registration and to collect a timing chip. The entry fee is £3 or one session on your swim saver card. The swim/run replaces the usual Thursday session so there will be no coached swim session on swim/run evenings.

National Relays - 24th August 2013

Would all those wanting to take part in the National Relays on Sat 24th August - please confirm by e-mail ASAP. Cost £10 per person- please pass to Zena or Sue.

Steeple Time Trial 17th July - Club League Bike TT 4

Note from the organiser-
"For those riders who may have difficulty in getting out in time to sign on for 7.00 pm start, I have extended the signing cut-off time to 7.15 pm, but after 6.45 pm signing on will be at the start and not the Sun and Anchor Pub.
Riders will be allocated a sequential number when they sign-on, that means that the later you sign-on, the later your start time will be. We would however like Tri Club members to let us know in advance only if they definitely intend to ride. Last time three people pre entered but didn’t turn up."

And lastly but possibly most importantly -
We have been asked to provide marshals for this event. If you are going and taking someone along would you please ask them to marshal for us? And let me know ASAP.
If we do not have enough volunteers to marshal this event I will have to ask riders to step down and marshal. Obviously those who have not marshalled any events this year will be the first asked.

Best of luck and safe journey guys from all at EETC

Club Swim Nights

As I'm sure you are all aware, due to the popularity of our swim sessions, the registration process is pretty chaotic at the best of times. Sue and Janice are faced every week with the arduous task of getting you all paid up and into the pool on time usually at the cost of their own swim time rather than yours. It doesn't have to be this way!

There are four simple solutions to ensure we are all paid, changed and poolside on time.

Calling All Marshals ...

There's now only 15 days to go until THE busiest day of the EETC year!

For those of you that don't know (where have you been?) the 1st of June sees both the East Essex Kids Triathlon AND Richardsons Cycles Basildon Off Road Triathlon held at our home venue at Basildon Sporting Village and this is the day we really rely on all our members the most.

As it stands we are desperately short of marshals to cover the Off Road Triathlon in the afternoon and have the bare minimum for the morning Kids Triathlon so if you, your family or friends are available to give us a hand we need you now!

Please contact the marshal hotline asap - zena@east-essex-tri-club.co.uk - We really can't do this without you!

New members - Trial Sessions

Those of you who are attending our training sessions as 'non-members' please be aware that this arrangement is purely on a trial basis and as of next week, commencing 20th May, will be strictly limited to two sessions before you will be required to join.

The benefits of full membership, including cheaper sessions and the chance to pay in advance at even greater discounts, will soon cover the membership fees so it really does make sense to sign up.

For full details on EETC membership please visit the JOIN TODAY section on the main menu

New Buttons - Please Read!

At the very top of the page, in the blue header, you will find four new navigation buttons.

The first is the 'Home' button and this will return you to the 'News' page - It's the yellow house one.

The second is the 'Menu' button. It's the one with four yellow lines. This will open a new menu page with all the links previously found in the old side menu. The reason I've changed this is to make the website site fully accessible to those viewing on smart phones and tablets as the old 'hover style' menu only worked on desktops.

To the right of the 'east essex triathlon club' header you will see a yellow 'Loudhaler' button. This will take you directly to the club forum.

And finally on the far right is the 'Captain's Notes' button - the notepad and pencil one.

Both the Forum and Captain's Notes are also accessible from the menu page

There's been a lot of 'reconnecting' pages throughout the site so if you find any links that don't work please let me know - the 'gallery, newsletter and news archive sections are still being worked on. Thanks for your patience and I hope you find it all ok

Winter Bike Rides

Just a quick note to say that Sunday 28th was our final EETC winter training ride of the season.

It would appear that winter is finally behind us (?) and I hope that our members have found the rides enjoyable and worthwhile.

This winter has not been without it's challenges with more members than ever joining our Sunday rides and we have had some pretty impressive weather!!

Please join me in thanking the ride leaders who have to be organised and plan routes before the weekend and have to make a judgement on the weather in the early hours on a Sunday morning, without them these rides would not be so successful.

EETC Division 2 CHAMPIONS!

Team EETC completed their undefeated reign of the South East Essex Cross Country League Division 2 with their fifth and final win of the 2012/13 season to secure the division champions trophy. Despite a blazing 5 point lead on chasing team Havering 90, EETC gave it their all and proved they were not only in it for the grand slam but their eyes were firmly fixed on a well deserved spot in next season's Division 1.

Also providing EETC's 2nd victory quintet of the season were EETC ladies Hayley Hawes, Jo Sullivan and Loretta Sollers who between them secured 'five out of five' first lady wins for Team EETC. All in all a truly outstanding effort all round.

"I've launched the regional race series today so please checkout the website and plan your season, especially if you're after regional honours this year. For children please be aware that the Rob Mclean triathlon is a qualifier for IRCs and only has 71 places left so get booked in early."

"This year the IRCs are for Tristar 2 and 3 only, youths and juniors are encouraged to enter the youth and junior super series which includes a race at the same venue and on the same date as the IRCs. The reason for the change follows a strategic review by Triathlon England and British Triathlon who believe youths should be getting better opportunity to race nationally throughout the season."

It will follow the same format as in previous years with a coached session, hill climb, time trial and cycle race, and is free to all full club members - adult, youth and tristar. It's a great chance to enjoy some fun, traffic free cycling and even grab the odd league point or two.

Please note that unfortunately we are unable to accommodate guest riders at this event

EETC End of Season Social & Ride Out - Friday 5th October @ Rayleigh Cricket Club

As in previous years this will involve an afternoon bimble followed by a hearty feast and much drinking and merriment. It's open to all adult members and is the ideal time to over indulge whilst discussing next years events only to end up agreeing to something silly.

The Pre-Social Ride Out will meet at Rayleigh Cricket @ 9:30am for 10:00 off - Full details now available on the Forum. Please respond to the forum post if you plan to attend or alternatively email Paul Gammon.

The Evening Social will be from 7:30pm onwards. There will be a BBQ/Buffet style spread (maybe with the legendary Dawbarn Otter Curry) and a pay bar.

Current Homepage and Archive News

You may have noticed a few changes to the look of the EETC homepage. This is all part and parcel of a gradual update of the site in general so please don't be alarmed if things disappear and re-appear on a regular basis while I test various formats! As it's coming up to the time of year where the 'news' section would be archived anyway to make room for the new year it seemed silly to spend time adding all the old news to the new page so if there's something on the old page that you need to reference I've archived a full copy, complete with all the relevant links, HERE

Last Swim TT of 2012! - Thursday 20th September 8:30pm @ BSV

This Thursday will be the final swim TT of the 2012 EETC League.

For new members, yet to do one, these are timed 400m swims, for club members only, held 5 times a season instead of the usual Thursday swim session. As well as being a great indicator of how your swim training is progressing it'll also earn you points for the EETC Club League

... And if you don't fancy that you could always help out with time keeping and lap counting then enjoy a quick free swim after!

MOB MATCH 2012 - 15th September 6:30am

It's Annual 'Mob Match' time again! This is a local inter-club Swim (1k Open Water) Run (5k), which is usually a season-closer for most people (and remember this is also an EETC league swim event so counts towards your league points!). It's hosted by Blackwater Tri again this year. Traditionally (and again this year) the Club will pay participants entry fees as a 'thank-you' for your assistance this year.
Please note that it's a sanctioned event this year (i.e. covered by BTF) so bring your BTF Licence. I'm afraid it's going to be £3 for a day licence for those without (sorry), and ridicule for those who leave their licence at home and have to pay £3 on the day....
Please bring your Entry and Waiver (required to swim in this lake) forms on the day to save queueing time.
